Jessica and Scott came down to LA this weekend to visit and see We Are Scientists with me. Jess and I had seen them together four times before so my moving down south was no excuse to break tradition.
The consensus was that The Music Box is a cool little venue. We sat in the balcony most of the show but couldn't resist running down the stairs to bounce around during We Are Scientists.
The Spinto Band opened up and even though I napped a little during their set, they were entertaining.
Art Brut was brilliant. They put on a fantastically energetic show. The singer, Eddie Argos, was quite funny. At one point he jumped into the crowd, in his bare feet, no less, and proceeded to mingle with fans for a while. After their set Jess wondered aloud if We Are Scientists could top that performance.
And as it turned out, W.A.S. did not disappoint. In the past I have noticed that they seem play harder when they are the opening band, but tonight they had it going for them. The crowd was really into it and the band seemed to respond to that. We got to hear two songs that I hadn't heard before which was exciting. Chris said one of them was stolen from a Smashing Pumpkins song title. From what I took down in my phone the setlist was as follows:
Lousy Reputation
Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt
Cash Cow
Can't Lose
Callbacks
[Tonight, Tonight] (new song)
It's a Hit
Bang Bang Rock & Roll
Textbook
This Scene Is Dead
Inaction
["It's on the tip of my tongue"] (unknown song)
The Great Escape
After the show I decided to stop by the merch table and pick up the Art Brut CD and I also got a split single of Art Brut doing a W.A.S. song and vice versa. I am sharing those two tracks with all of you here.
