R.E.M. played a few "working rehearsals" this week in Dublin. I wish I had loads of money so I could have made the trip out to the Olympia Theatre to see them debut a bunch of new songs. In addition to about 11 new songs they were playing, the audience got to hear some rarities that hadn't been played in more than 20 years.

This is the first song they played the first night, tentatively titled something like "Living Well's the Best Revenge".

I want a Helio Ocean

Everyone else wants (or already got) an iPhone, but I’ve been drooling over the Helio Ocean for a while now. The hardest part is facing the switch between providers (Verizon to Helio) and facing a new 2-year contract. I’ve come up with a plus and minus list.

Positives:

Unlimited data plan, including web
50 more minutes per month than I have now
Nice looking dual slider device

Negatives:

No more IN calling with my family on Verizon
The “what if I don’t like it” factor
About $22 more per month by my estimate

I’ve always wanted an always-on internet device without having to pay the through-the-roof charges for EDGE or EV-DO or whatever. It just seems like a really scary purchase and commitment. Help me.

I have found another distraction from what I am supposed to be doing. I have a presentation on Monday. The readings are about the Network Society including: the geography of the internet, the politics of knowledge, and the politics of time. I'm leaning toward focusing on the role of the individual in the network society.

Blank pages are daunting.

So here are some more cover songs. David Pajo has covered Misfits songs twice that I know of on record. "Last Caress" was first released as Aerial M, then repackaged under Papa M. "Hybrid Moments" was hidden before the first track on the first Pajo album. Enjoy!

covers for lovers

A couple of songs that Jessica gave me long ago by Pedro the Lion come up on shuffle quite often and I always think, I need to check more of their stuff out.

Well in my search I found an EP with some neat covers. I thought about posting the version of Radiohead's "Let Down," but it was kind of boring. Instead, here is an interpretation of "Metal Heart" by Cat Power.

What's your method for calculating a tip?

Double the (8.25%) sales tax and round up for good service; round down for bad service.

Kind of a dumb question because it was so easy to answer.
